My Microsoft/Xbox Account has two different names on one single E-Mail adress

Hello.

I wanted to start playing Sea of Thieves again. Haven't played it in ages. I started the game and all my ingame progress and bought items were gone.

I noticed that my gamertag was different from what it used to be.

So i tried to change my name back to my old username, because I thought Sea of Thieves would find my "old Account" and progress. I thought it might be linked

to the username.

Sadly it turned out that I am unable to change my username back to my old name. When visiting the name change page and entering my old name, the page

tells me that I already own this name and that I dont have to change anything. It even shows my right (old) username in the top right corner of the page.

Looking back into my Xbox or Microsoft the name there is the new one I've never changed it to.

When contacting SOT support they told me that my account had been created two days ago. That's not possible because I have the receipt from when I bought the game in 2018 on this account.

I'm confused... help me please :(

Answer

Hello Max Kirsten,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Allow me to kindly explain to you that an email only has one player ID, it is not possible to have 2 player IDs, and based on what SOT support has said, you may have logged in not to your original account, but to a new Microsoft account, so your game progress and purchases have disappeared. Try logging out of your account during the game, then logging into your account again to see if your progress and purchases are still there. Alternatively, log in to https://account.microosft.com/ with your account and see if it works.

We look forward to your sharing more information with us so that we can better understand your issue.

Best regards
