SmartScreen Filter problems.

I am using hotmail. When I attempt to open an email from a trusted source it won't let me see the content and says that smartscreen finds it suspicious. It sometimes has a similar message with other emails but has the option of viewing the email anyway, but not on this one. How can I view my own email?

Hi,

I'm sorry - but this is not helpful. I NEED to read my email, and I SHOULD be able to. It is a very important email and due to issues which have nothing to do with me, I cannot get in contact with a company that I need to. I cannot call them either, as they are international. There must be something I can do to read my own, personal email. I feel like the time which has already passed without this issue being resolved is completely unacceptable. Please provide me with some information I can use.

Thank you.

Hello,

Does the same thing happen when you access your account from the same computer with a different browser? However, please follow the steps below on how turn the SmartScreen Filter on or off for us to rule out the issue:

1. Open your Internet Explorer browser.

2. Click the Tools icon, and then click Safety.

Click one of the following items:

  • Turn On SmartScreen Filter
  • Turn Off SmartScreen Filter

3. In the Microsoft SmartScreen Filter dialog box, select one of the following items, and then click OK:

  • Turn on SmartScreen Filter (recommended)
  • Turn off SmartScreen Filter

Is anyone at Microsoft actually attempting to solve this issue? I can't access an important email, there is no option to 'show content', the smartscreen fitler has been turned off but the filter built in to hotmail itself still refuses to let me view it. I've added the sender to my safe list and I've tried multiple computers and browsers.

I've posted on several threads and no one from microsoft has replied, when will this issue be resolved?

I am in exactly the same position as you. I didn't manage to get any help from Hotmail and it seems that nothing is being done about this issue. I arranged to have the email sent to me again to a different email account, but the experience has convinced me to move away from Hotmail entirely.

SmartScreen can be helpful when it's correct, and it doesn't do any harm as long as there is a "Show content" option. But it seems bizarre that Hotmail should have such confidence in a system that is sometimes incorrect, to the extent of making it impossible for humans to override that incorrect decision, thereby confiscating sometimes important information from Hotmail users.
