Movie Maker not working in Windows 10

I tried to open movie maker a few days after I installed Windows 10, but it wouldn't open. Every time I click on the icon, I get this error message:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\UIRibbonRes.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000020.

I've heard some people with similar problems suggest uninstalling and reinstalling, but a good chunk of people also say this remedy doesn't work. I'm also hesitant to uninstall it since I don't want to lose the files I have for Movie Maker.

I tried the repairing option, but it said that it couldn't find any problems. I also checked Windows Live Photo Gallery, and it was working alright.

Any ideas on what I should do?

Thanks!

I would recommend an uninstall/reinstall. I'm not having any issues in Movie Maker 2012 after the upgrade to Windows 10, so it is possible to get it working.

I don't even have the movie maker icon since I upgraded to Windows 10. I made a movie for my dad's 70th birthday and I need to edit. Anyone have any ideas how to get it back? I have seen in a few places that movie maker does not work with Windows 10. Is there anyway to get back all the work I put into my movie (70 years worth of photos). Thanks

I tried the uninstalling/reinstalling process, but when I tried to install Essentials 2012, the install graphic just kept saying "preparing to install".

I tried the uninstall/reinstall process. Though it installed properly, once I tried to open Movie Maker, I got the same message.

After upgrading to windows 10 I couldn't use Movie Maker anymore, so this tip worked for me just fine..

Try this:

Search for  MovieMaker.exe on your system,[on my system I found it at ...windows live/Photo Galery... then right click on it and check compatibility...let windows 10 to do the rest.

I hope this will help.....

I too have Windows 10 and no longer have a Movie DVD Maker app. I have contacted Microsoft to ask them to provide me with a compatible Movie DVD Maker program. I believe they are having a difficult time finding one that will work with Windows 10. Very frustrating...I needed it by tomorrow.

Microsoft discontinued dvd maker when Win 8 was released, you need to source your own now.

I realize I need to find a Movie DVD Maker program but I want to be sure it is compatible with Windows 10 before I purchase it. None of the apps I researched say they are compatible with Windows 10. I even called Microsoft techs yesterday and they did not have an answer for me.
