How to make .gifs move in Movie Maker

Original title: Windows Movie Maker

I'm using a Windows 7 machine trying to create a  video in Windows Live Movie Maker 2011. I have working gifs that are saved to my computer, but when I import them they are just still images. Any idea how to make them move? All of the help I've found online is for the old version where you have the timeline at the bottom.

Thanks!

As you have discovered animated gif files are not supported
in the newer versions of Movie Maker.

If you have access to an earlier version of Movie Maker (2.1,
2.6, 6.0) you could create the project there or you could
import the gif files and save them as a WMV Movie file and
then import the saved WMV Movie into the newer versions
of Movie Maker.

If you do not have access to an earlier version you can
download and install 'one' of the following on Windows 7.
(it would be best if you only install one of the following
versions)

Vista Movie Maker 2.6 (created for systems that could
not run Vista Movie Maker 6.0)

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Windows Movie Maker 2.6

Vista Movie Maker 6.0

(FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System
Restore point before installing software or updates)

Installing Windows Movie Maker 6.0 on Windows 7 or 8

(FWIW...the project files from this version will be in the
.mswmm format and they will not be interchangable with
your newer version that generates .WLMP project files)
