windows live mail not opening

I can not get my Window Live Mail to open.  When I click on it, the screen comes up that says Window Live Mail with a circle going round and round that say starting by it.  It never opens though.  I have restarted my computer numerous times, checked for updates, did the fix for Windows Essentials.  Any suggestions??

Hi GrammaD,

I suggest that you repair the program. There could be some corrupted files in it.

1. Click Start and select Control Panel.

2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.

3. Right-click on Windows Live Essentials and select Uninstall/Change.

4. Click Repair all Windows Live programs.

Thanks!

Tried this twice.  I even removed the other Live programs that I never use.  Both times the repair was reported as "successful"  but actually was not.  Do you have any other fixes?  If I can't load the program, I can't export the mail archives before uninstalling --   Thanks.

Hi,

May we know the operating system of the computer and the version of Windows Live Mail in your computer? We also need to know if there were any changes such as automatic updates or recent change in your anti virus program. This can help us with our investigation.

Thanks!

Hi
The OS is Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.  Since I posted my question, I did try a reset point, which was for a week ago. But that caused a modem conflict and I had to power cycle to get the internet working again... Still WLM does not open.  Norton Security Suite is constantly updating but I don't remember any particular updates... but any "update" issue should have been taken care of by the reset point.  Hope you can think of something that I haven't.  Thanks.

Hi

Reply number 2:
It is possible there was a Windows update on the night of the 6th.  There is a vague memory for when I started up computer on the morning of the 7th:  I THINK I had to boot up Windows instead of just waking the computer and I very rarely shut down the computer unless it's for updates.  Sorry I'm not more sure -- I just don't pay much attention when things are working well.

But as in earlier post:  I thought update conflicts were cancelled by reset points.

Thanks.

Hi

I believe the version of WLM is 2011.  I also found wlmimefilter64.dll   by right clicking it from the program file menu  on the C Disk (Drive).  I don't know where to look otherwise or what "version" means in this case.

I don't get an error message.  The start up spinning circle just keeps spinning and I have to shut  down the program through Task Manager in the Processes menu : click  wlmail.exe*32   and then click  End Process

I have not tried reconfiguring my account

As far as I know there is only one account

However sometime around 3 or 4 this morning while exploring the innards there was some note about files in Outlook  but I thought I didn't use Outlook on this computer -- I set up this computer in October 2010 and I think Outlook was no longer available.  I was tired and now I have no idea where or why I came across that  (maybe it was some imported files from long ago)

Additionally:  I can start the individual tasks offered by Windows Live Mail on the Start menu.  For example I can send an email  and the email is delivered

Thank you.  I am grateful.

Hi

Second reply.

If I could find how to get to the email archives so that I could save them,  would it be a simple matter of uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Mail?

Hi

Third reply.

The folder for Outlook Files, mentioned above, is in My Documents. The only contents of the folder is my email address but it wants to only be opened in Outlook (which I don't have) and Windows Live Mail is not given as one of the options when I look for alternate programs to open it.

Thanks.
