windows live mail error 0x80004005

After configuring my email, windows live mail connected to the server and begun downloading messages... after a while I received a the generic message that the system was waiting for the server to respond...did you want to continue to wait.  I selected yes...  After what seemed like a ridiculous amount of time, where it seemed there w
as no activity at all, even though it was still connected to the server, I checked the informational error and saw the following error:

Unable to send or receive messages for the <account name> account.  An unknown error has occurred.

Server: 'name of server'
Windows live mail error ID:  0x80004005
Protocol: POP3
Port:995
Secure(SSL): Yes

Has anyone encountered this issue before.  I'm unable to find a solution anywhere...  I was successfully running windows live on my pc without any issues at all for almost 2 weeks.  I had to switch to using my laptop, installed windows essentials and configured for use... and ran into this problem... The only thing that may be different is that I ran updates prior and am now at Windows 7 SP1.

I have the same situation, however, I have more than 5 pop3 accounts attached to my Windows Live Mail and I'm only receiving an error with one of them.  I have double-checked and compared settings between the accounts, and have logged on to the servers they are pointed to manually to check that the accounts are working.

Everything is fine except for receiving the following for the one account ( I've masked part of the ip per company policy ):

Unable to send or receive messages for the Micahel Houston account. An unknown error has occurred.

Server: 'xx.xxx.16.211'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80004005
Protocol: POP3
Port: 110
Secure(SSL): No

I ran the Windows Live Essentials repair but that didn't help.  Any clues?

Thanks

I have tried:

repairing live essentials

delete and then recreate account

deleting virus protection software

None of these work

ISP's web mail is working both before and after each of these attempts.

Still have 7 email accounts with no send or receive and all stating that an unknown error has occurred as stated above.

I have the same issue after upgrading from Windows live mail 2011 to 2012 and applying the d-Mail.msp update.  Now running Windows live mail 2012 Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3563.0918)

I have three mail accounts set up in live mail.  Two are hotmail accounts.  One hotmail account works and the one non-hotmail account works but the other hotmail account gives the error below and I have tried a repair and deleting and re-adding the problem account to no avail.

Immediately after adding the account it flashes that it is syncing the files but then the message goes away within 2 seconds and I see all of my folders under the account but they are all empty.  If I try to send an email from that account I get this error.

Server Error: 0x80004005
Server: 'https://m.hotmail.com/Microsoft-Server-ActiveSync'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x80004005

I can still get to all of my email for that account via a web browser client.

The suggestion to recreate the Hotmail account as shown in the following link worked for me:

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/wiki/livemail-email/windows-live-mail-and-outlook-mail/6edb5ba6-f9f2-40fd-80a1-fc23cc6fbfe0

You are basically using the advanced server settings to make the Hotmail account access the IMAP server, instead of its default server settings.

Thanks for sharing this workaround.  It worked for me, though I had to temporarily disable two-step verification settings on my affected account in order to successfully authenticate to the IMAP server.  Keep this in mind if you experience issues too.
