Gmail account failing, Server: imap.gmail.com AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

I have a number of accounts set up on Windows Live Mail accessing gmail accounts.

1 account is failing with the following error message:

AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

Configuration:

   Account: Gmail (<account name>)

   Server: imap.gmail.comAUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

Other accounts retrieve email successfully.

Logging into gmail directly and using same password for account that is failing in Windows Live Mail works successfully.

I have no emails stuck in Windows Live Mail Outbox.

All account settings are the same for each account.

PLEASE HELP.

AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Invalid credentials (Failure)

Here are Google's remedies for Gmail authentication failures:

If you can't sign in to your email client, you might see one of these errors:

  • "Username and password not accepted"
  • "Invalid credentials"
  • You're asked to enter your username and password over and over

1: Check your password

  • If you have these problems or can’t sign in, first check to make sure you’re using the right password.

2: Try these troubleshooting steps

  • Use an App Password: If you use 2-Step Verification, try signing in with an App Password.
  • Allow less secure apps: If you don't use 2-Step Verification, you might need to allow less secure apps to access your account.

Try Allow less secure apps first, as the most likely cause of your problem.
