uninstalling Windows Live Essentials

My question:

WHAT DO I NEED THIS LIVE ESSENTIALS FOR?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have Windows 7 and I am having problems with Windows Live Mail not opening incoming mail. I get:

A PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WHILE TRYING TO OPEN THIS MESSAGE. .... PLEASE TRY AGAIN

I have posted this question before but nobody seems to know how to resolve the problem.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apparently the culprit might be WINDOWS LIVE ESSENTIAL 2011 and if that is the case I want to uninstall it.

I rather live without ESSENTIALS if this will solve my problem. Please advise.

Uninstall Windows Live Software

1. Click Start, click Control Panel

2. Click Programs, and then click Programs and Features.

3. In the add or remove programs window, Windows Live programs are under "Windows Live Essentials."
4. When you choose Essentials you will have the option to uninstall them.

Windows Live Essentials is an add-on with extra features like Live Movie Maker, Live Messenger and Live Mail.

If you uninstall it, it won't affect Windows.... you can just as easily reinstall it at a later date.

You can use Mozilla Thunderbird instead of Windows Live Mail, download it here: http://www.filehippo.com/download_thunderbird/

I was going to start the uninstall of Windows Essential and 4 programs were listed to uninstall:

- Messenger

- Mail (send and receive mail messages and manager your contacts...)

- Writer

- Photo Gallery and Movie Maker

My question:

If I uninstall Mail does it mean that it will disable Windows Live Mail and I won't be able to receive or send messages?

My email account associated with Windows Live Mail is other than Hotmail and I wonder if it will be affected.

PURPOSE--

As I mentioned before, I am trying to fix the problem that prevents me to open a message in WLM.

I have to click the message several times until the error message: A PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE TRYING TO OPEN THIS MESSAGE disappears.

Do you have any ideas how to fix this??

1. Windows Live Essentials is the package that includes Live Mail, Movie Maker etc... if you remove it, it will remove everything it comes with.

2. If you uninstall the software, you won't be able to use Live Mail, because it won't be on your pc anymore. You would have to reinstall it again to use it.

3. If you uninstall it, it shouldn't affect your online email account.

There is a way to repair the problem without uninstalling it... you can fix it by performing a Repair.

When you go to Uninstall Windows Live 2011 it will give you an option to do a Repair or Uninstall. Select Repair, it will take a few minutes to perform but might fix the problem without removing it.

I have ran the repair and it doesn't fix anything.

Someone design the program to generate this error message under certain circumstances but what good does it do if no one seems to know what are those circumstances and how to deal with them?

Would you happen to know whom I can write at Microsoft about this problem?

Windows Live Mail is driving me crazy.

Also, just recently, when I start writing a message and am filling in the TO field it doesn't always read the contact list to fill in the rest.

arghhhh!!

Hi IrisFernandini,

We apologize for the inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

As part of our initial troubleshooting step, I recommend reconfiguring your Hotmail web based email account to Windows Live Mail and see if refreshing the synchronization settings would resolve the issue. Please copy and paste this URL in your address bar to learn how:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/mail-add-email-account-faq

To further isolate the issue, does the issue affects all your incoming emails when you view them? Or does it affect a specific email only? Were you able to view your emails through the web?

Thanks!

Did you not see this remark by the OP: My email account associated with Windows Live Mail is other than Hotmail?

Do you know that removing an account and adding it back again corrects the error that the OP is experiencing? This could commit the user to re-downloading gigabytes of data, something not to be undertaken lightly unless there is a very good chance that it will solve the problem.

Links in these forums will usually be clickable. This makes it easier for those trying to access the link, but difficult to copy and paste.

Hi,

If you decided to use Thunderbird over Windows Live Mail, it doesn't matter if both program is installed to your computer. You have an option to have it remove before or after installing, but I strongly recommend for you to follow what Docs_M recommendation and see it from there. You can actually have your account back up first before reconfiguring your account to ensure that you do have the same information after the process.

Thanks!
