Hi Thomas,

It is possible that this problem occurred because the installation to the user account was corrupted or your user profile is corrupted. I suggest that you try to use a different user account in your computer and try to check if this issue will occur. In addition, please provide the following information to further isolate the cause of this issue:

• Which version are you currently using "Consumer or Release Preview" of Windows 8.
• Are you able to run Windows Live Movie Maker "Movie Maker & Photo Gallery shares some components".

Thanks,
Gerard G.

Hi centa von bacher,

We need to verify what is the build version of Photo Gallery installed to your computer by following the steps below:

 1. Press Windows + R, input AppWiz.cpl, click OK.
 2. Select Windows Live Essentials / Windows Essentials 2012, the build version is listed on the right side.

The latest version is 16.4.3505.912 in case you are using an outdated version you can use the installer thru this link:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started.

In addition, what is the version of Windows 8 did you install? Have you also tried to repair/reinstall Photo Gallery?

Regards,
Gerard G.

Hello,

I have Windows 8 the 40 dollar upgrade, I think that is ultimate or pro?

Windows movie maker does work.   Build 16.4.3505.0912

I re-installed all of windows live essentials this afternoon to try to fix the problem.

I can open the photo gallery for viewing, The error pops up when I try to go to Edit Organize and Share.

Another issue that started occurring around the same time, is my galleries do not work.  It states the gallery is no longer working.  You can delete this gallery from your computer.

I also have no other user accounts on this computer.

Hi mankows5,

It is possible that you're unable to edit your photos in the client because of a corrupted Windows Photo Gallery database in your computer. To troubleshoot this error, please run our auto-fix program to regenerate Windows Photo Gallery cache in your computer. Here is the link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/944221/en-us

Click the green button in the banner below Fix the problem automatically then Run to start the program.

Please let us know if the issue still persists.

Thanks!

I was having a similar error but I found out that my Library folder was corrupt. Deleting the library folders and restoring it helped.
