Why can't I access my gmail account in Windows Live Mail?

I set up a gmail account in Windows Live Mail using the following settings:

  • Incoming Mail (IMAP) Server - Requires SSL
    • imap.gmail.com
    • Port: 993
    • Requires SSL:Yes
  • Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS
    • smtp.gmail.com
    • Port: 465 or 587
    • Requires SSL: Yes
    • Requires authentication: Yes
    • Use same settings as incoming mail server
  • Full Name or Display Name: [your name]
  • Account Name or User Name: your full Gmail address (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***). Google Apps users, please enter *** Email address is removed for privacy ***
  • Email address: your full Gmail address (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***) Google Apps users, please enter *** Email address is removed for privacy ***
  • Password: your Gmail password

As a result, when I tried downloading e-mail, I got this message:

"The server has rejected your login. Please verify that your username and password are correct."

I don't understand why the gmail account won't work if I followed the above instructions.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My gmail used to work correctly until 31st January. There after I start getting the notification

"The server has rejected your login. Please verify that your username and password are correct."

Please help me with correct remedies.

There are many potential reasons for Gmail to reject your credentials. Here are Google's suggested remedies:

If you can't sign in to your email client, you might see one of these errors:

  • "Username and password not accepted"
  • "Invalid credentials"
  • You're asked to enter your username and password over and over

1: Check your password

  • If you have these problems or can’t sign in, first check to make sure you’re using the right password.

2: Try these troubleshooting steps

  • Use an App Password: If you use 2-Step Verification, try signing in with an App Password.
  • Allow less secure apps: If you don't use 2-Step Verification, you might need to allow less secure apps to access your account.

Try Allow less secure appsfirst, as the most likely cause of your problem.
