KB2536276 - Windows XP PC get "system error 58" when doing net view \\ of SMB server drives

Since Windows security update KB2536276 has been loaded on the Windows XP Service pack 3 PC's on our customers network, they

have been unable to map network drives to the SCO unix servers running SMB "Samba" file sharing software.  When they run the DOS command

net view \\<server name> an error "system error 58" is returned.

The problem can only be resolved by removing the KB2536276 update , rebooting the PC and then the net view command  runs successfully.

We either need this patch to be fixed and re-issued or have a method of preventing the patch being re-loaded

It's a Samba bug. A patch can be found under

Please be aware that this only happens if you are using plain text passwords which are highly deprecated for ages in Samba.

Hope that helps,
