Double check you are typing the Product Key exactly as written on the License. Some letters and numbers look similar.

You receive an error message after you enter the product key when you try to install Windows XP

Note: The Product Key you are using must be used with the correct disc version. You should use the disc that came with your license.

For example if you have an OEM license, then that License can be only used with an OEM XP Pro Disc. OEM Licenses are licenses that come with your computer, usually the product key is stuck on the side or top of the computer, or underneath a laptop.

If you have a Retail License, then you must have a Retail Version of XP Pro. Retail licenses are FPP (Fully Packaged Products) and often have the license on a yellow or orange sticker.

If you have a Corporate License (Volume License), then you must have a Corporate Version of XP Po. These are usually only available to large networks.

The License Sticker will have a version, this is an example for an OEM version : X11-37156

Make a note of your version, and find the disc that matches that version.

A product key can be activated a limited number of times, if your product key has been previously activated it can be reactivated as long as it is being reinstalled on the same machine. Reactivation's must be done by phone, otherwise you'll need to change the product key.
