did not install plugin.ocx

Hello,

When I was reinstalling XP, an error message appeared.  Windows can not install the file plugin.ocx.  Now I can not get Office 2000 Premium to  operate properly either. I donwloaded a microsoft copy of the plug inand pasted it where it was supposed to go.  When I ran the run comand to see it, Iwas toldthat no file was found.   Can you help me.

                      Thank you,

                             Jeff

Hi Toby,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft Community Forums.

As per the description, you get a message "Windows can not install the file plugin.ocx" while reinstalling Windows XP.

Is this an original Microsoft CD that you are using to reinstall XP?

You may also use a different Windows XP installation disc and check if the issue exists.

Please post back with the result.

Hello,

Thank you for the reply.  I bought the disc and do not have another one.  I do have the six floppies I made to recover though I made to recover from.  They did nothing. I tried sfc /scannow that did not help.  Is there soe otherway to install it, other than pasting it in.

Hello,
Can I try installing the file like the following suggested, to try and get it to show up in the registry. I do not think I need all of these.

               Thank you,
  Jeff

Hi Toby,

Thank you for the reply.

Please try them. If the it still doesn't work, please try another XP CD as floppies will not help if the drives are corrupted.

Hello,
How are you?  Do I have to add all of the list or part of it.  Do you have other options like this.  Do you think it will help Office 2000 Professional to be found by its service packs.  Is there some other items that will help there.

                    Thank you,
                        Jeff
