1) Hold down the power button for 10 (ten) seconds to switch off your machine. (Brutal shut down) (a normal start up will not work)

Please note: Holding down the power button on the machine forces it to switch off. Any unsaved data will be lost.

2) Start your machine and tap F7

Yes i have tried all that, the laptop will start and go to the password page but there is an issue with it there too, as follows:

I am trying to restart an old laptop but when i switch it on and type in the password a dialog box appears saying "windows product activation, This copy of windows must be activated with microsoft before you can log on. Do you want to activate windows now?"  when i click on "no" i return to the password page, If i click "yes" my background screen shows and a box appears saying "windows is already activated. click OK to exit".  When i click ok it returns to the password screen. Any help greatfully received thank you.

I thought by trying safe mode i would be able to deal with that issue but i can not even get to to safe mode.

Repair installation

Or...

Power off the laptop.  Hold down the F8 Key.  Power on the laptop.  Keep holding down the F8 Key.  If the computer (not the OS - but the computer) complains about the key being pressed, let up, do whatever you need to do to continue and IMMEDIATELY hold down the F8 key again.

If that doesn't work - do the same thing, but sub in "SPACEBAR" for "F8" above.

Or...

Turn on the computer (no battery, just connected to power)... before it boots all the way up into Windows - yank the power.  Now plug it back in and try to boot.

You are trying to get it to error into giving you the menu.

When are you pressing F8?
(Turn on computer and immediately tap F8 once per second.)
