WIndows (XP) Update error code 0x78F.

Windows Update has failed (code 0x78F) three times to install "Service Pack 2 for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB2687455) 32-Bit Edition". I can't run the diagnostics because of another problem (XP doesn't recognise a .diagcab  extension).  Can anyone please help me diagnose the problem myself.

"cumulative security update for internet explorer"  plus a KB series number

 

On the left will be a Bulletin ID Number for this month

 

MS13-097   ( the MS ID number is an embedded link ) that will take you here

Scroll down the list looking for your version of internet explorer

 

( for IE8 ) this will be the linked page for the December update

and the download button may get you a password request and a browser download permission query which is in that navigation path
