Keep getting the following error message: "LSA Shell (Export Version) encountered and needed to close."

Spent five hours today with Computer Associates on making sure computer is spyware/virus free (done this five times in two months), but have been told it is a Microsoft software problem. Windows starts automatically shutting down as a result. How do I fix the error and avoid the "cycling" of shutting down and rebooting the computer continuously?

Did the shutdown -a not stop the timer to shutting the system down?

What is your XP version and Service Pack?  If you are not sure, do this:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

msinfo32

Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here (or at least the version and Service Pack information).

You need to be able to stop the shutdown process and get stabilized long enough to download and run some other scanning software.

Download, install, update and do a full scan with these free malware detection programs:

Malwarebytes (MBAM):  http://malwarebytes.org/
SUPERAntiSpyware: (SAS):  http://www.superantispyware.com/

They can be uninstalled later if desired.

Reboot your computer and troubleshoot remaining issues.

Just do the scans one at a time if you have to, starting with MBAM.

Do, or do not. There is no try.
