Bug check code 0x7A

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff559211(v=VS.85).aspx

Select Start, Run, type cmd and press ENTER. Type "chkdsk c: /f /r" without the quotes and hit ENTER. Make sure you include the spaces indicated. Enter Y when asked whether you wish to run chkdsk on restarting the computer. Exit and restart the computer.

Marking off bad sectors on a hard drive takes time so be patient. Marking off does not repair a bad sector. It places pointers on the drive telling the system not to read or write to those sectors which have been damaged.

If the number of bad sectors continues to increase after you have run the procedure above several times then you should replace the drive. If an important system file is written to a bad sector you can corrupt registry hives and lose the whole contents of the drive.

On the other hand if having run chkdsk you see no more new bad sectors then the drive can work for you for years.

I have used HD Tune for years. A lot of highly reputable software fails the Microsoft checks. You need to get a second opinion on the hard drive and related items if the errors persist. The freeware version is now quite old and most likely predates the time when Microsoft introduced their checks. You could physically examine the drive to determine the manufacturer and model.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/SYSTEMS/dim1100/en/SM/parts.htm#wp1088442

You can run the Dell diagnostic checks.

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any from more than 48 hours ago.

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. You will see a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. This places a copy of the report into your Clipboard. Paste into the body your message. Make sure that this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.

Are any devices malfunctioning? Select Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Information. Open Components under System Summary and click on Problem Devices. Is anything listed there?

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties, Hardware, and Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

To see Hidden Devices (Non Plug and Play Drivers) you need to select View, Show Hidden Devices. It is necessary to do this every time you open Device Manager if you need to see them.

A further complication can be Ghosted Devices –installed but not connected!

Select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings and verify that the box before "Show hidden files and folders" is checked and "Hide protected operating system files" is unchecked. You may need to scroll down to see the second item. You should also make certain that the box before "Hide extensions for known file types" is not checked.

The Event Viewer error report is saying you have no pagefile on your C (system) partition. The placing of the pagefile on C is a Windows default so someone has most likely set no pagefile to create more free disk space on C. Whilst you can put the pagefile elsewhere it is not a good idea to have no pagefile on C. You need at least a minimum of 50 mb. Where is the pagefile or is there not one elsewhere?

I would be interested in seeing a Disk Defragmenter report. Open Disk Defragmenter and click on Analyse. Select View Report and click on Save As and Save. Now find VolumeC.txt in your My Documents Folder. Open the file, and place the cursor anywhere in the file, select Edit, Select All to highlight all text and copy and paste into the body of your message. Do this before running Disk Defragmenter as it is more informative.
