I cannot export the registry, I get an error writing the file., it says, " there could be a disk or file system error" what can I do?

I kept getting an error from my nortons internet secrity. When i call there tech suport, they made me do somethings, but nohong worked. then they wanted me to try to export the registry. when i wnt into regedit to export it.  it said that there was an error writing the file, there could be a disk or fle system error.

On the assumption that there really might be a disk or file system error, try performing a "chkdsk" operation on your hard drive.  Use the /R option if running chkdsk or check both options if using the GUI version.

Be forewarned that checking the boot volume will occur an the next reboot after you set it up, it runs before Windows fully boots, can't be interrupted, and can take upwards of a couple of hours to run depending on size of disk and amount of corruption, if any.  Run it when you won't need your machine for a while.
