what is the problem if the processor speed is zero in bios utility

Winxp Pro sp3 Motherboard Intel D850MV, 400 FSB, 2 GB Memory, Pentium 4 (2.8 GHz).  Computer was running ok then suddenly crashed.  On reboot, error message appeared "error loading operating system".  Motherboard and CPU seem to be ok.  BIOS utility shows CPU with zero processor speed.  Replaced with new CPU, same result.  Computer will not boot with boot disk or original Winxp Pro installation CD. Mobo sems to be ok.  Dale

Answer
Only reason why it wont boot if you replaced the CPU is it doesn't support the CPU (without a BIOS update)

According to the Intel site, 2.8 isnt even listed

What was the old CPU and whats the new one??

If the new one is higher than 400 fsb it may not work on this mobo
