How do I run Windows Easy Transfer in Safe Mode using Windows XP?

How do I run Windows Easy Transfer in Safe Mode using Windows XP?  I'm running in Safe Mode because I cannot run in Normal Mode, my graphics card may be done.  I want to transfer my data, contacts, emails, etc to my new machine.

Although reading some of the previous questions I did have an error message after a Windows update back in january, something to do with Microsoft Virtual C++ Runtime.  I ran a full disk scan, nothing showed up.  I could operate everything OK with the message in the background, then the screen started to die.  Any help with the Windows Easy Transfer would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi,

·          What happens when you try to boot to the desktop in normal mode?

·          Is Windows Easy Transfer installed on your computer?

Step 1:

You may configure the computer to clean boot state from safe mode and check if you are able to boot to the desktop in normal mode. To configure your computer to clean boot follow the link given below.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow the last step in the article to boot to normal startup.

If you are able to boot to the desktop in normal mode after configuring in clean boot try using Windows Easy transfer and check if that helps.

Step 2:

If you are not able to boot to the desktop in clean boot mode then try to enable the VGA Mode for the computer and boot to the desktop and check if the issue is due to the graphics crad installed on your computer. To enable the VGA mode follow the link given below.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315222

Download link for Windows Easy Transfer for Windows XP.

Note: If Windows Easy Transfer is not installed on your computer, you will not be able to install in when you boot in Safe Mode.

Hope the information was helpful

I think your situation is described in the following post.

it gives a solution for the following note as well.

"Note: If Windows Easy Transfer is not installed on your computer, you will not be able to install in when you boot in Safe Mode."
