How to disable (not delete) the "Asp.net" user account

Greetings! It's unlikely that I'll ever need the asp.net account, but it's possible. For security reasons, I'd like to disable the account, but retaining all the user-specific security keys. I don't see a "disable" switch for this user, but do with the "Guest" user. If there's no "easy" way to disable the "asp.net" user, perhaps there's a registry value the can be tweaked in order to disable the account(?) Any help is appreciated, Cheers!

Hello drivel,

Thank you for taking the time to post.

The Asp.net account is a system account that is used by programs that reply on .NET Framework. The Account does not allow remote or even interactive login, therefore the account cannot be used by anyone. If you want to disable the account see the following steps.

·         Right-Click My Computer and select manage

·         Expand Local Users and Groups

·         Select Users

·         On the right pane right-click ASPNET and select Properties

·         Place a checkmark by Account is disabled and hit Apply and OK.

NOTE:

Prior to disabling the account I would advise you to create a System Restore point just in case. Also, keep an eye on your system if you do disable the account just to make sure everything is running as it should.

Thanks,
