I am running Windows XP Home SP3 with FF 5.0. I had a virus (Backdoor.RBot) that the Avast program did not find. Neither did the MRT program from Microsoft, or the online scanner. Used Malwarebytes and virus was removed. Installed Microsoft Security Essentials, uninstalled all AV programs, cleaned up the registry, and ran MSE. Found another virus (HackTool:Win32KeyGen) removed it. Ran disc check, removed 4 corrupted files related to email program, Uninstalled and reinstalled Yahoo Messenger, since I had been having problems with it.
When booting up, I get a black screen with the desktop icons showing as white circles, then the screen flickers and comes up normal.
My Windows Media player comes up in pieces, the screen comes up first with half of the task bar there, then it flickers and the other half comes up.
Problems with FF. Sometimes freezes when I have more than one tab open. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Makes no difference.
IE8 does the same thing.
Also, with either FF or IE8, when opening a new tab, I get a white screen, which loads very slowly, and sometimes not at all. I get error messages (no numbers) which tell me the page has been reset by the server.
MSC is prompting me every 4 hours or so to scan, and when I run a full scan, it takes at least 5 hours to run. Yesterday the scan took 10 and a half hours to run!
The fan on my computer is almost constantly running.
I am afraid I have more corrupted files/ programs.
Any help would be appreciated. I am fairly new to using a PC, so please be as simple as possible.
