Q: Windows cannot find '(null)'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. What does this message mean?

I cannot see any of my desktop shortcuts, nor can I open any files. This message appears after about a minute when I click on the start menu and select my programs.

Can anyone advise what this is and how to fix it?



Well, that is...odd to say the least.

It appears this error occurs in multiple circumstances, so could you say if you installed anything recently, like IE7.

It also appears this might be the work of a virus, so I would recommend downloading Malwarebytes free version at and running a scan.
