Task scheduler error, 0x80041315, error 1717

When I try to schedule a task on my window xp computer, the following errors come up:


1. Scheduler> General page intialization failed. The specific erro is: 0x80041315: The Task Scheduler Service is not running. An error has occured attempting to retrieve task account information. You may continue editing the task object, but will be unable to change task account information.


2. Could not start the task scheduler service on local computer. Error 1717: The interfaceis unknown.


Is this common, serious, or can it be fixed?

Thanks for the help.

I finally got things working. Here's what I did:


I went start, run and then entered: services.msc, and pressed ok

That took me to the Services window.

There, I looked down the right hand area under Services (Local)

Under the Name category, I found Background Inte . . .

I Right - clicked it,

Pressed start,

gave it a minute to run, then

Startup type: I entered Automatic,

Then Start again

Apply, and finally, OK

I then closed the boxes


Everything works
