Cannot turn on hibernation - mystic hiberfil.sys

I have a Windows XP Home installed on drive E: where I cannot turn hibernation on.
It turns out the file E:\hiberfil.sys cannot be created with error Access Denied.
I have full permissions on the drive and there is no any *.sys files there.
Here is what I have:
E:\>dir /A *.sys
Volume in drive E is SYSTEM
 Volume Serial Number is 42D8-420F

 Directory of E:\

File Not Found

E:\>echo >pagefile.sys

E:\>echo >hiberfil.sys
Access is denied.

E:\>dir /A *.sys
Volume in drive E is SYSTEM
 Volume Serial Number is 42D8-420F

 Directory of E:\

               0 Dir(s)  56,433,004,544 bytes free
E:\>del pagefile.sys

E:\>del hiberfil.sys

How could this happen?

Answer
Answer
Ok, I've managed to fix the problem.
Using disk hex editor I changed the name of hiberfil.sys to hiberfil.syt in $MFT, then chkdsk somehow restored the file, and hibernation service changed its size to PC's current memory. The file is visible now.
I'll check if the hibernation is actually working.
