Hi,

1.       Is this a wireless network?

2.       Was the Security Code set before the updates?

Some routers have the security codes fixed and these are normally displayed on the outside of the router.
If you are using a wireless router from your internet provider, the WEP KEY will be on a sticker on the router.

Method 1:  Try to reset the router and see if that helps.

Note: For further help on resetting the router, refer the manual that came along with the router.

Method 2: If it was not set before Windows Update, if it started after windows update you may perform system restore and see if that helps.

Step 1: Restore the computer to a date when updates were not installed on the computer.

Refer:

How to restore Windows XP to a previous state:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

Step 2: After System Restore Windows Updates will be offered to you again, place the computer in clean boot then install Windows Update and see if that helps.

Refer:

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" state:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: After troubleshooting refer the sectionSteps to configure Windows to use a Normal startup state” from the given article.
