what is the easiest way to reformat the hard drive on my windows XP computer

I am not a IT tech nor am I am advance user.  I have a new computer with microsoft office all set up now.  I would like to reformat the hard drive  on my old Windows XP computer so when I sell it, no one will be able to get any personal information of mine.


I have the operating system and driver discs that I can use to put the computer back to a operating state for the new user.


Can you help me?

Hi Rhonda,
Thank you for posting this question in Microsoft Community.
If you have the Windows XP installation disc with you and if you have backed up all the data from the old computer, you may perform a format clean install of Windows XP. This will install a new copy of Windows XP on the computer and as you are formatting the hard drive, the data also will be erased during the format.
You may refer to these articles and check if this helps.
Note: Backup the data before formating the drive to be on the safer side.
