For the Samsung Galaxy installation of Kies, there is one more step you need to take.  You need to install a driver.  Go to samsung.com and enter shg_i337zKaatt in the Search Box.  Click on 'downloads' right underneath the picture of the Samsung Galaxy, then click on 'See All Downloads' on the left side of the screen.  Only one driver exists '(Device(install),USB Driver (Software) (ver.v1.5.140) Win XP/Vista/Win 7/Win 8' realeased Nov 12, 2012.  Click on the EXE box to download the file. (http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I337ZKAATT#content3 ). After downloading, make sure Kies and any other application is closed and your phone is not connected to the computer. Then double click on the file to install the necessary driver.  Connect your phone to the computer.  You should hear a sound and there should be lots of pop ups from Microsoft stating that it found new hardware, etc.  Then, start Keis.  You should be in!  If you need more help, contact Samsung.  My carrier is AT&T and they gave me a phone number to contact Samsung.  So, try your carrier, otherwise you may be charged for a support call.
