Question

Q: Why won't my computer let me go to google?

Whenever I try to go  to  Google, I get 404not found. I used to be able to go to Google. Now I can't.

Answer

A:

How are you getting to Google?  Try typing "http://www.google.com" in the address window of your browser.  If you're still getting the same error, it could be due to malware that has altered your "hosts" file.  Examine your "hosts" file with a text editor such as Notepad.  The hosts file is usually located at C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts.

A default hosts file will have only one line that does not begin with a "#" character and that should be the line:
   127.0.0.1   localhost

If you have other lines in this file, you should clean out your hosts file.
