No icons in desktop & start menu in Windows XP computer.

Original Title: Subject: Click start nothing there empty.

I have windows XP media edition service pack 3 and all icons on left side of monitor along with those in the start menu are gone. Go to  all programs says empty. Have been able to restore internet explorer and Aol e-mail and thats it. How do I restore programs so I can open them? Go to control panel add or remove programs shows they are still there.

Answer
Answer

Usually when that happens xp or the user account is getting corrupted,

but to restore,go to run, type: cmd

In cmd,type: Sfc /Scannow

Once the file checker starts, install xp installation cd,exit the menu,Sfc

runs auto.

Once its thru,remove cd,type: CHKDSK C: /F

Agree to restart,type: EXIT

Restart pc

This works with a xp pro or home edition, using microsoft cd,media center should

be the same
