Windows Update error code 80070641

Like many others I encounter error code 80070641 when trying to run Updates. I have followed all the advises, ran Fixit solutions several times, checked all suggestions on this Forum and other internet sources however without success. I am running Vista Home Premium SP2 64bit on an Acer computer. I can install any application I want, I can even successfully install all other Windows Updates like for Vista itself, SQL Server, etc except those pertaining to Office 2007. Right now I have 10 Office 2007 updates failing. The Office applications run without any problem whatsoever. I hope you can provide more solutions than sofar published.

I do not see the error-exception 80070641.  I do see what appears to say that a few updates are in the queue and ready to be applied.

Close any open apps you started.

Then use Windows-key (Start) and select Logoff and Restart.

As part of the restart it may well apply the updates, so let it do that.

IF this is a notebook/laptop make sure it is connected to electric-wall-power or a UPS system.

After Windows restarts, invoke Windows Update and right then, click on the left-pane's View Update History

See what items were processed with today's date:

which ones succeeded

which one failed

For the ones marked Failed (if any) double-click on the line-item and get the Errors detail code

I am very happy to be able to say I solved my problem! All Updates have been installed in the usual way!

I wouldn't fail to let you and other users with the similar problem know what was causing the problems:

Some weeks ago just before going on holiday I made the mistake of first stopping my computer and then trying to stop my HP C-7280 All-in-one printer. The printer indicated it was closing but that went on for at least 10 minutes. As I was in a hurry for the holiday I unplugged the power cable which stopped the printer. Ever since I came back HP software wanted to install additional features for HP Solution Center, either when I invoked this software or after a reboot. In fact, the earlier mentioned warnings came from this software. This evening I decided to first resolve this before continuing with other things. I had to completely uninstall all the HP Printer software and drivers and re-install the same. After a reboot I tried the updates again and to my big surprise it worked!

So what do I learn from this:

1. Never ever stop my computer before stopping the printer. This will allow the printer to communicate with the computer and especially the printer software, and close smoothly.

2. Resolve an existing problem with the printer as soon as possible, even when printing features are working as required.

I do thank you for all your support!
