Error 8004FF83 installing Microsoft Security Essentials Update

original title: I get this error code when trying to update 8004FF83. it fails.  what next?

When I try to install an update, I get this error code: 8004FF83.  It has failed 3 times now when trying to install it.  Currently my computer saysSecurity Essentials isnte monitoring my computer because it has stopped.  When I restart the PC, get the same results.

Hi KathyCKelly,

Boot your computer into Safe Mode and try installing the update. Safe Mode uses the minimal software and drivers to start Windows. If the issue is caused by a 3rd party driver or software, this will eliminate the conflict.

You may also run the FixIt to reset the Windows Update Components and following the troubleshooting steps in this document.
