Task Scheduler Catastrophic Failure (Error 0x8000FFFF)

Time and time again, while I am in the Task Scheduler, I get a Stop error declaring "Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))", followed by "Task Scheduler service is not available. Task Scheduler will attempt to reconnect to it." Can anyone decode this and tell me what I need to do to rectify this situation?

Hi,

Added Scheduled Tasks are in

"C:\Windows\Tasks" where C: is the drive where Windows resides.

You should only have to deal with Tasks that were added to the Windows Default ones.

Tasks have to be added and removed in Task Scheduler though backing up the Registry
using Create Restore Points should work. This is because each is assigned an SID.

In the Registry (Added) Scheduled Tasks are located in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule

and several Sub-Keys of that Key.

I would do this to rule out corruption being at least a partial cause of the issue.

1st do these to clear corruption and repair/replace damaged/missing system files.

Run DiskCleanup - Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Disk Cleanup

Start - type in Search box -  COMMAND   find at top of list -  RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

sfc /scannow

Then run checkdisk - schedule it to run at next start and then Apply OK your way out then restart.
