Receiving server Error: 0x800CCC90 and error : 0x800420CD ​when opening Windows Mail.

Original title: when opening windows mail after receiving a couple of emails I get this error message  see below.What can I do to fix this?

Message number 5 could not be retrieved. Account: 'mail.btinternet.com', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR inactivity timeout', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800420CD - This or a similar message saying that there is a "possible loss in connection" This has become annoyingly frequent over the past few months.

Are you able to login to the email account in webmail?

 

Follow these steps and check if that helps.

a)    Open Windows Mail by clicking the ‘Start’ button, clicking ‘All Programs’, and then clicking ‘Windows Mail’.

b)    Click the ‘Tools’ menu, and then click ‘Accounts’.

c)    Click the account with which you’re facing the issue, and then click ‘Properties’.

d)    Click the ‘Servers’ tab, type your password in the ‘Password’ box, and then click ‘OK’.

e)    After entering your password, select the ‘Remember Password’ check box.

f)    Under Outgoing mail server select ‘SMTP server requires authentication’

g)    Click on ‘Apply’ and click ‘Ok’.
