Hi JRCLNSIN100,

Welcome to Microsoft Answers Forums.

We would like to get a little more information from you to help troubleshoot your issue. Please answer the following questions as best you can.

·         What is the disk you are using to reinstall?

·         Is this a recovery or reinstall disk you are using?

·         When exactly do you get this error message?

·         What is the edition of Windows Vista you are trying to install?

·         How old is the disk that you are using?

·         How are you starting the installation process?

Based on my research the error code 0x8007000D basically is due to file corruption and a problem with the disk itself.

First check if you have scratches or dirt on the disk and clean the surface and try again.

To check if the disk is gone bad you need to copy the contents of the DVD onto the hard drive and try installing using that.

To perform a flat installation of Windows Vista, follow these steps.

Note The hard disk must have at least 3GB of free disk space for Windows Vista installation files. The hard disk must have at least 15 GB of additional free disk space to install Windows Vista. For more information about the system requirements for Windows Vista, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/systemrequirements.mspx

  1. Insert the Windows Vista installation disk.
  2. Start Windows Explorer.
  3. In Windows Explorer, click to select the drive for the Windows Vista installation disk.
  4. In the Edit menu, click Select All.
  5. In the Edit menu, click Copy.
  6. Click to select the hard drive that you want to contain the flat installation files.
  7. In the File menu, point to New, click Folder, type Windows Vista Setup, and then press ENTER.
  8. Double-click Windows Vista Setup, and then click Paste in the Edit menu.
  9. Double-click Setup.exe, and then follow the instructions that appear.

This problem may also occur if the DVD drive's firmware is either out of date or defective.

If the above step does not fix the issue would suggest that you install latest drivers for the DVD drive on the computer.
