Hi

Is this the first time you are trying to backup on the external drive with which you are having this issue?

Do you have a spare external drive and does the same happen when you try to backup on that drive?

First let’s try to disable antivirus installed on your computer before performing the backup on the drive.

Step 1: Disable the security software, follow the steps mentioned below

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Disable-antivirus-software

Step 2: Try the registry fix given below.

1) Open regedit and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\VSS\Diag

2) Right-click the key and choose RENAME, then rename the key Diag-Bad.

3) Exit regedit

4) Retry your backup operation.

REGISTRY DISCLAIMER

Step 3:Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors on the hard drive.

a. Click on start and in the start search bar type cmd, right click on the command prompt icon in the programs area and then click on run as administrator.

b. Change the root directory from C:\users\username to the external drive
In the command prompt type in CD x: where x stands for the drive letter of the external disk.

c. At the command prompt type chkdsk /r and then press enter.
