How do I restore Human Interface Device to Device Manager

I am running Vista, service pack 2, 32-bit on a Dell Dimension XPD601.

I attached a Coby MP3 player to my computer, and my mouse and keyboard stopped working.  I restarted the machine, minus the Coby, and the keyboard and mouse worked again.

I reconnected the Coby, and the keyboard and mouse don't work again.  I removed the Coby, restarted, but this time still no keyboard or mouse.

I checked Device manager, and there was no listing for human interface device.

I have tried system restore, to two time points prior to the installation of the Coby, but both restore attempts failed.

I have flashed the bios, but still no results.
