So everything must be OK? Not so fast there, Mr jegreen56. I tried to install the KB938371 update again and it failed with the same 800B0100 error code.

Should I run the elevated Command Prompt and execute the Check System Files utility again?

I seem to be getting nowhere and not that fast. Pls Help?

Hi,

Are you able to install other updates successfully?

I would suggest you to follow these methods and check.

Method 1: Disable antivirus application and try to download and install the update.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2: Perform clean boot and try to install updates.

To do this, follow steps from this link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

NOTE: After you check the functionality in clean boot configure Windows to use Normal startup using the step 7 suggested in the link mentioned above.

Method 3: If the issue still exists then install the update manually.

Note: This is applicable to Windows Vista also.

Thanks for your feedback.

I have decided to take the gentler, simpler path to the solution. I have given MS Help Desk $99 to get a copy of a Windows 7 Professional installation ISO file download. I even get a  30-day money-back guarantee. Plus a 60-day guarantee on the problem solution. Well, considering that I only paid $110 for the Windows 7 Student Edition Upgrade CD 12 months ago, I think I get the full install DVD for $209. Not a bad deal considering that I saved myself a lot of time and trouble getting my Windows Backup image file restored. Every cloud has a silver lining and I am walking in sunshine again.
