"The User Profile Service failed the logon." "User profile cannot be loaded." How do I fix this problem?

My HP Pavilion with Windows Vista will not accept my password. It gives the message, "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." I only have one profile on the computer so I can only access it through safe mode. I tried the Startup Repair idea that I reaad about online, but when I clicked on restart and held down the f8 key it took me back to enter password rather than the Advanced boot Options. Needless to say, my password still would not work there. What can I do to fix this problem?  The internet Explorer and Mozilla Fox logos show on the desktop in safe mode, but will not connect to the internet; therefore, I am using another computer to post to the forum. If I appear to be slow to reply to forum answers it is because I am unable to receive email on my computer while this problem persists. Any advice will be appreciated by me.
