Windows Media Player is not properly installed and must be reinstalled

My daughter is trying to play an audio CD for her science course. We are getting this message:

The file wmploc.dll has a version 1100.6000.6349 where 11.0.6000.6344 was expected. Windows media player is not properly installed and must be reinstalled. Do you want to reinstall from Microsoft website?

So, I said yes. I went through the whole thing and at the end it says something like, you can install an older version of Windows media player.

I have no clue how to fix this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
The file wmploc.dll has a version 1100.6000.xxxx where 11.0.6000.xxxx was expected…

The cause of this error is due to the fact that the version of wmp.dll in the registry is out of sync with what is installed. The below steps should resolve the issue you’re encountering:

Recommended troubleshooting…

1.     Ensure that Windows Media Player is closed before proceeding.

2.     Click Start, click All Programs, and click Accessories.

3.     Right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.

4.     Click Continue or provide Administrator credentials if prompted.

5.     In the Command Prompt type the following and press Enter:

·          UNREGMP2.EXE /UPDATEWMPVERSION
