Why won't a .wlmp file play?

Someone shot a video and burned it to a DVD in the .wlmp format.  Why can't I view this DVD on my PC?  What player do I need to download to play a .wlmp file? Do I have to convert this file type to something else?  If so, to what & how do I do that?

WLMP is not a movie file. It's the Project file which
is only useful for re-editing in Live Movie Maker. And
it cannot be played outside of Live Movie Maker.

The .WLMP file is just a text file that records the
path to all the source files and records the transitions,
effects, etc... It does not include copies of the source
files...(photos, video clips, audio clips).

For sharing and playing in Windows Media Player
save the file as a movie in the WMV format...the
following link shows how:

Ask the sender to save the file in the .WMV video
format and re-send it to you.
