Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000 Disables Sound from all players

My HP Notebood DVT1100 with Win Vista 64 has been working fine. I added an HJP Monitor 2159m for HDMI and VGA, and that has also been working fine along with sound from the NVIDIA HDMI port and from the earphone port. But when I connect the Digital Media Keyboard 3000, all sound is turned off. I don't see how to turn it back on. (WMP seems to start and work as usual, and all the controls appear and behave as usual. But there is no sound from the devices. Device Manager reports that they are working normally.) THanks for any help you can provide. This seems to be a keyboard compatibility problem - I have no problems with the sound unless I connecct the keyboard.

Hi jjcampbell,

As per the link Microsoft Digital Media Keyboard 3000 is compatible with Windows Vista.

Windows Vista Compatibility Center

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-vista/Search.aspx?type=Hardware&s=Digital%20Media%20Keyboard%203000

Let‘s connect the keyboard to any other USB port or to any other computer and check if it’s working properly.

Also make sure that the media control buttons and the mute button on the keyboard is not pressed. If any of the buttons are pressed by chance in media control it will disable the sound of the computer.

You may also run the “Fix it” tool given in this link:

If it doesn’t help, let’s download and install the latest audio drivers from the manufacturer’s website as the audio drivers might have got corrupted.

To do this, follow these steps:

1. Type devmgmt.msc in the start search box, press Enter.

2. In device manager, expand the audio driver.

3. Right click on the audio driver and click on uninstall (Put a check mark in Delete all files), click OK.

4. Reboot the computer and install the downloaded drivers.

Hope the information helps. Please post back and let us know.
