Vista Windows Media Player 11 uninstall / reinstall / codec fix

Hello!
I'm having an issue with my Vista version of WMP11.
Is there any way of uninstalling this? I hit a wall with the
program when I noticed it was no longer able to play
ANYTHING just out of the blue! Not even simple mp3's
or wave files. First I thought it was a problem with the
codecs but, I couldn't find anything online to fix the codecs,
do you have a link to download and install the codecs?
Is there a way to uninstall Vista WMP11 & reinstall it?
I couldn't find it in the control panel. I attempted to find
a download of it in the Microsoft website but it only appears
to have a download for the WMP11 XP version. Are they
the same? I ran sfc /scannow and it repaired some corrupted
files that I couldn't see in the logs, however, the player is
still malfunctioning. Please help! :)

Windows Media Player is part of the basic installation of Windows Vista so there is no option to remove it from Control Panel or to run a stand alone re-installation of the Windows Media Player for Vista.

Since you have already run sfc/scannow and it found errors that didnt repair Windows Media Player, I would recommend using System Restore to restore your system to a date where Windows Media Player was still working without problems.

To Use System Restore:

Click Start

Select “All Programs”

Select the Accessories folder

Select the System Tools folder

Click once on the System Restore icon.
After you click on the icon, if a User Account Control window opens you should click on the Continue button.

You will now be at the System Restore screen. From this screen you can specify the restore point date from which you would like to restore.

By default, Vista will already have selected the recommended restore option. This restore point is one was made after a new program, driver, or update was installed. If you would like to use this restore point, you can click on the Next button to start the restore process. If there is a more recent restore point that you would like to restore to, you should select “Choose a different restore point” and press the Next button. This will bring you to a screen showing all the available restore point dates that you can restore to.

Select the restore point that you would like to restore and press the Next button to start the restore process. Vista will display a Window showing your selected restore point and asking you to confirm that this is the one you would like to restore.

Click “Finish”

don't worry..just install a third party free codec package called K-lite codec package, live search it..
after that every file will work in your WMP11 or you can follow the above instrcutions ..
