Error message 0001 0002 when installing printer drivers

I get error message 0001 0002 when trying to install drivers for a Canon Pixma MX892 printer. Five different Canon reps have tried to find a solution - -  to no avail. (It appears to be a Windows error message rather than one generated by the Canon setup program.)

The error message appears when a) using Canon's disk or the drivers from its website; b) after a selective restart; c) when the Norton firewall is disabled; and d) each combination of a) through c). It also occurs when

The exact moment it occurs during the driver installation process is when the setup program is "Registering the program information."

The exact wording of the message is: An error occurred while files were being copied: 0001 0002.

I am running Vista 32-bit and downloading drivers using Firefox 18.0.2.

Having installed numerous printers without a hitch, this is driving me crazy.

Like you, I thought it was an Epson printer software installation problem and went and bought a Canon.  Yet I still cant install both printers' software.  Both Epson and Canon customer service cannot help at all.  That's when I decided to contact Microsoft.

Yes, I paid for the premium service, and am happy that they fixed all my PC issues.  Took them about 2 to 3 hours to complete the job. I strongly believe it's worth the money, in my case.

Anyway you can try this free fix by running Microsoft FixIt from this link, or copy the address to your browser -

I had also used this FixIt several times since to 'repair' whatever OS files were inadvertently corrupted or went 'missing'.  Good luck.
