Driver Power State Failure - Blue Screen Of Death - Windows Vista

Carol_af asked on
My computer has crashed on 5 occasions now, twice on 16th, then once on 18th, 21st and now today, 31st January 2014.

The minidump file identifies the following as the culprit in all 5 cases:

Filename:             ntkrnlpa.exe
Address in stack:  ntkrnlpa.exe+f5a98
From Address:     0x82438000
To Address:         0x827f1000
Size:                    0x003b9000
Time stamp:         0x4cb715e0
Time string:         15/10/2010 12:38:24 AM
Product Name:     Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
File Description:    NT Kernel & System
File Version:         6.0.6001.18538 (vistasp1_gdr.101014-0432)
Company:            Microsoft Corporation
Full Path:             C:\Windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe

Please advise what action I need to take to prevent or reduce this incident?
Please note that I am not an IT person, but I can follow directions-  I found the Nirsoft software from this forum which has enabled me to access the above minidump file.

Hoping you can help.

All of the attached DMP files are of the DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE (9f) bug check.

This bug check indicates that the driver is in an inconsistent or invalid power state.

If we run an !irp on the 4th parameter of the bug check, we get the following:

>[ 16, 2]   0 e1 87976288 00000000 8243cdb4-893e5a90 Success Error Cancel pending
           \Driver\rt2870    nt!PopRequestCompletion

^^ rt2870 = rt2870.sys which is the Ralink 802.11 USB Wireless Adapter Driver. Also used by Linksys and D-Link. Ensure this driver is up to date:

Debugger/Reverse Engineer.
