Device Connect and Disconnect Sounds Play When NOTHING Is Connected!

Hello,

I am running Windows Vista x32 on my Dell Inspiron 1525. The problem is that the device connect sound, immediately followed by the device disconnect sound, play intermittently even when not a single device is connected. I've already checked out a million online solutions, and here's what we can rule out:
  • Again, it does this when no devices are connected, so it's not a loose USB device.
  • It does this randomly; I can't predict when the sounds will play, and nothing shows up in the event viewer that I can link to this problem.
  • My laptop doesn't have Bluetooth, so it's not just trying to pick up a network.
  • I've updated every driver I can think of and that has been recommended by other forums. They're all up to date. I also have every service pack installed.
  • This is a personalized sound scheme, so these sounds are ONLY linked to the device connecting or disconnecting, respectively. I've even gone through every sound in the profile just to make sure I didn't accidentally double up.
The only other relevant thing I can offer is that I actually just sat around waiting for the sounds to play while watching the device manager. I had all the lists closed, and when the sounds play, the "network adapters" list opens up. Again, I checked to make sure all those drivers are up to date, but it still plays. Please help, I'm going insane! Thank you in advance!

Btw, while I may put up a good show about knowing what I'm doing with a computer, I'm not that well-versed in techno-speak, so please dumb down your solutions. Thanks. :-)

Hi,

That description makes it sound like the issue is a network adapter that is active - Right Click either the
NIC (Wired) or WiFi devices and DISABLE - which ever you are not using and see if the sound continues?
Watching in Device Manager is a good idea.

Is it a PC or a Laptop - built-in or add-on/in card? If a PC remove ALL power and remove and reseat
all cards and cables on both ends (actually remove and replace - do not just snug). Not a lot you can
do with a laptop unless the WiFi is external though for either PC or Laptop you could disable the on-board
WiFi (if it has that) and use an external device.

Hope this helps.
