Burn a Disk > Mastered is unavailable / grayed out.

HELP!  Just recieved my new Sony Blu Ray burner and 35 compatible bd-r media.  When I try to format I get an error.  I'm told the problem is Live File System vs. Mastered, and that I need to chose Mastered option.  However, Mastered is not available.  It is grayed out.  This is a Vista 64 bit operating system.  I've searched all over and have found no answers on how to activate the Mastered option.  Can anybody explain why this option is not available or how to turn it on?  I've updated the firmware on this drive.  Vista sees it just fine.  This is driving me crazy and I feel like I've been had and wasted a 140 bucks.  Please help on this issue, if not for me, but all the others who cannot find an answer to this problem.  For the record I'm not a newbie but am very good at working on computers.  Why is Mastered grayed out?

Thanks
