Unable to install Windows Updates error 0x80240440

Original Title: Windows Update error

I cannot get Windows updates.  When I try either via Metro or Desktop I get error 0x80240440.  I cannot seem to find anything on this error, but when I dig into the logs I get error 0x80072efe.  I have tried all the suggestions for this error:

- Disable Firewall
- Check Date/Time
- run sfc /scannow
- ran several viruscans

I even tried doing an update install over top, and still nothing.  I can't get windows defender updates and I can't get windows updates.

Loss of update capabilities on win 8 after installing office 2010
I downloaded the trial version of office 2010 home and student. Installation went well and was able to use programs properly. I noticed however that when i tried to update win 8 i received error code   8024A000f . I then proceeded to use the troubleshooter and it gave me the fix it download. I used the download and it said problems of database fixed. I then tried to use update and found error code the same minus the f (8024a000). So i went on these forums and manually applied a bat file to fix software distribution and dns. Problem continued. I also notice defender had also stopped working. I uninstalled office 2010 and all update functions returned. I re-installed office and problem arose again. I then disabled update setting for microsoft products and updates to os returned. Is there a conflict with 1. Win8 being a beta preview release not compatible yet with some previous software? 2. Being that office 2010 was a trial updates were blocked until full purchase thus blocking all microsoft programs update? 3.  Update servers for office 2010 are different then win 8 microsoft program update servers causing conflict. To my knowledge that error code was a connection related error. I have tried all manual fix and fix it programs. I uninstalled office 2010

I then decided well ill try office 2013 preview. Preview setup downloaded then it told me there was a problem and needed to use program features to remove the product which was never even installed. So now i am left with no options to have have microsoft office :(.

I have two requests: 1. a fix for this issue
                               2. A microsoft office uninstall scrubber to remove everything from computer and then i can try fresh.

thx for your help in this matter.....I have read all forums pertaining to issue and none have had a fix. Please do not mark this fixed until we decide its either fixed or unfixable with the current win8/office builds........
