how do I access optimum email account on surface? After inability to pull email when linked to outlook account, I trtied accessing directly in optimum native webmail with no success...

Optimum Online is a Long Island based cable/phone/ISP that also provides their customers with an email address. However we can't port our emails to the Surface's email application (Outlook) because the Optonline address requires POP3 servers. Is there a workaround for this?

 

Also, when trying to circumvent the outlook client, myself and others it seems have tried accessing the website itself through Internet Explorer. The website itself loads fine, however the web app for the mail only displays as a grey screen.

 

Any help towards resolving this would be greatly appreciated by myself and many other Long Island based clients. Thank you.

Once I added my personal email account to my iPhone, I had no problem opening/connecting my optimum.net pop account to my iPhone, where it always loads the email. It was pretty easy.  However, I cannot access it via mail on the Surface or via the optimum.net website, my home page, which loads fine. I need to access this mail account for work and personal , via Surface and HTC phone: if not, I will have to return this device &

 reluctantly go iPad....despite Office challenges.  Please help...

I just figured out what you meant by ie.  When I go thru IE, it takes all the info (I'd and password), but goes grey and does not load.

Optimum webmail can't be accessed directly via IE on surface.


You could try this as a workaround: Create an Outlook.com account (you'll want to use this as the Microsoft account you use to login to the Surface). Set up your POP email to that Outlook.com email account, then set that Outlook.com account up in the Mail app.
