Vista Windows Update error code 80004002

When I try to do the Windows Update, I get the message "Windows could not search for new updates" and encounters an error code 80004002. I try to get help but find no references to this error, only error 8024401B.

Hmmm...so next I'd recommend booting from the Vista DVD and running System Restore from the Recovery environment. See here for details on how to get there. If this doesn't work, I think a clean install is needed. See the "Perform a clean installation" section of this KB for details on this.
